Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE) and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) are different airports. A charter arrival at FXE does not place you inside an FLL airline terminal.
Begin with the correct airport and address
Tropic Air Charters’ primary Fort Lauderdale departure point is at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport. Your written charter confirmation remains controlling because an individual mission may use a different airport, hangar, FBO, customs facility, or meeting location.

Build the itinerary around four realities
A sound connection plan includes the parts of the journey that are often omitted from a simple driving estimate.
Charter operations
Weather, runway conditions, island procedures, aircraft readiness, passenger documentation, and operational decisions may change the actual arrival or departure time.
Customs clearance
International arrivals from The Bahamas may require processing at the FXE Federal Inspection Station before passengers and baggage can continue to ground transportation.
South Florida traffic
Traffic conditions vary sharply by time of day, weather, construction, incidents, holidays, and special events. A normal drive can become substantially longer.
Airline deadlines

The former Tropic Air Charters site advised a minimum three-hour separation and recommended four hours for Fort Lauderdale connections, with additional time for Miami or the Palm Beach area. The safer modern approach is to treat four hours as a practical starting point—not a guarantee—and increase the buffer whenever customs, checked baggage, children, pets, mobility needs, peak traffic, severe weather, or a distant commercial airport is involved.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport
FLL is normally the most convenient commercial-airline connection from Tropic Air’s primary FXE location. Under favorable traffic, the drive may be relatively short, but the connection plan must still include customs when applicable, ground-transport pickup, airline check-in, security, and terminal walking time.
- Ground transportation operates from designated terminal areas.
- Ride-app, taxi, private-car, rental-car, shuttle, and public-transit options are available.
- Do not schedule from a best-case road estimate.
Miami International Airport
MIA requires a meaningfully larger connection buffer. The drive is longer, traffic can be highly variable, and passengers must account for a large airport complex, airline deadlines, baggage procedures, security screening, and movement inside the terminal.
- Taxi and ride-app pickups use designated arrival-level zones.
- The MIA Mover connects passengers with the Rental Car Center and Miami Intermodal Center.
- Pre-arranged private transportation is often preferable for a time-sensitive connection.
Palm Beach-area Commercial Airport
Airport naming and identifier changes may occur. Use the exact airport name and code displayed on the current commercial-airline ticket, and confirm it again before arranging transportation. Do not rely solely on an older itinerary, saved map location, or familiar airport name.
- Taxi, sedan, SUV, van, ride-app, rental-car, and public-transport options are available.
- Traffic, construction, and peak travel periods can materially change the transfer time.
- A larger connection buffer than FLL is prudent.
Coordinate pickup after customs—not at the scheduled touchdown time
Flights returning from The Bahamas may be directed to the FXE Federal Inspection Station. Passengers, baggage, and personal effects remain subject to CBP procedures. Ground transportation should be arranged with enough flexibility to accommodate inspection and release.
Give the transportation provider the correct pickup location and explain that government processing controls the release time.
- Do not direct a driver automatically to Hangar 8 when the flight is clearing at the separate CBP facility.
- Use a mobile number that remains reachable after landing.
- Confirm how long the provider will wait and whether waiting charges apply.
- Do not leave the customs facility until CBP and the crew authorize departure.

Can a rental car be waiting at the charter airport?
It may be possible through a current rental provider or delivery arrangement, but it must be confirmed in advance. Do not assume a commercial-airport rental reservation is automatically available at FXE.
What information should I give the transportation provider?
